Sun 4 Nov - Stott Park Heights

Hidden away in the quiet western fringes of Windermere is the modest peak of Stott Park Heights, which offers some of the best views of the lake and its surroundings. The walk starts at Lakeside and passes through the village before entering Great Knott Wood. A steep climb to the tower on Summer House Knott, is followed by a steep descent (some sections may be slippy or squelchy - no stilettos please!) to Finsthwaite village. We then continue upstream, past many waterfalls to reach the secluded High Dam reservoir, which used to provide the water power for the nearby bobbin mill. Bearing away from the reservoir, we emerge from the trees to make the short diversion to Stott Park Heights and admire the views. Return journey is via a circuit of High Dam and back to Lakeside.
Distance: 6.5 miles
Time: 3.5 hours
Total ascent: 440m
Grade: 2
Start: 10 am at the Lakeside car park (Grid ref SD378874). Directions: travel into Newby Bridge, then turn off towards the Swan Hotel to follow signs to Lakeside and Aquarium, after about 1 mile turn right into Lakeside Hotel car park (pay & display charges £3.50 for 10 hours).

Friday 10 Aug - Social - Lakes Alive

Water Fools (Fous de Bassin) 9:30 in Keswick - Free

"French alchemists, Ilotopie (France) have won hearts across the world with their        beautiful shows on the streets and waterways of cities and towns.
Now they weave their ingenious magic in one of the Lake District’s loveliest locations, transforming the surface of Derwentwater into a fantastical watery-wonderland.
A man’s humdrum life is turned upside-down when his head inexplicably bursts into flames and a kaleidoscope of extraordinary things begin to happen…
Upon the Lake, underneath the stars, everyday objects transform into surreal mythical creatures, cars pull caravans, gods march into battle and a 5-metre high Queen gazes over her magical aquatic kingdom from the seat of a giant penny-farthing."

Cost of show is Free
Show time 9:30pm to 10:30pm
Location - Keswick Theatre by the Lake with the best view from neighbouring Crow Park
Contact Matthew on 07878352150 to organise car shares or to arrange to meet up.
I will be leaving Kendal at 8pm
Kendal Rugby Club is operating overflow car parking for £3
Anyone who wants to meet up in Keswick I suggest meeting up on the pavement outside the Keswick Mountain Rescue between 9:10pm and 9:15pm before we head into Crow park for the 9:30pm performance

Cairngorms WolfTrek 3&4th August

Dear Summitt Good
We have just opened entry to our epic WolfTrek event and wanted to let your club know! The WolfTrek is a spectacular team walk, run or relay from Forres on the Moray Coast to Cairngorm Mountain that takes place over the weekend of August 4th and 5th. Plunging you into Scotland’s most beautiful scenery - including remote lochs, desolate moors, ancient Caledonian forest and the stunning Cairngorms National Park - the WolfTrek is an adventure not to be missed. I wonder if you would be so kind as to circulate the following info to your members and contacts? That would be very helpful.Celebrating its 5th Anniversary this year, the WolfTrek has been named one of ‘9 Events Everyone Must Do’ by Men’s Fitness Magazine and described as ‘Epic…One of a kind’ by Men’s Health Magazine (though of course nearly half of our participants are women!). The spectacular WolfTrek route was created by the WildHearts team (you won’t find it on any map) and due to the unique conservational sensitivities of the terrain it passes through can only be held on ONE weekend a year.In teams of 3 or more you will have 24 hours to wolf down the whole 45 mile challenge or you can choose to take part in a team relay, tackling a bite-sized 15 mile section of the route. Alternatively choose to take on the Midnight March, an 18 mile trek from Forres to the ghostly shores of Lochindorb. You can find out more at http://www.click-n-print.co.uk/getlink/74TN36an/mF6WabfqdW/jYX6SWm2m4/ or via the flyer below. This year's event will be very special as it marks our 5th anniversary. We hope you can join us! Thank you so much.WildHearts

Sun 29 Jul - Catbells and High Spy

One of the most popular walks in the Lakes is the ascent of Catbells, so much so that Wainwright described it as "a family fell where grandmothers and infants can climb the heights together". We will, however, leave the grandmothers and infants far behind and continue to ascend the ridgeline to Maiden Moor and High Spy, which tops out at 653 m (2142 ft).

The return journey from Dalehead tarn passes waterfalls and into the quiet Newlands valley, flanked by craggy outcrops of the hills, and remnants of the silver mining industry that used to thrive here.

Distance: 8.5 miles
Time: 5 hours
Total ascent: 640m
Grade: 3

Start: 10 am at the main car park (layby) on the road between Hawse End and Skelgill. (Grid ref NY245211). There are also parking spaces available at the earlier junction from the Portinscale road and also along the road towards Grange.
