Sun 26 Jun - Hadrian's Wall

A varied circular route taking in the most beautiful part (in my opinion) of the Hadrians Wall Path as well as the Pennine Way. We will start by heading west to Cawfield Crags, before heading north east to admire the craggy north face of the wall. Once we meet the Pennine Way it will take us back to the wall just west of Housesteads Fort. The route will take us past the famous “Robin Hoods Tree” (Sycamore Gap).

Start: 11am Steel Rigg car park Grid Reference: NY 751 676 (OS Outdoor Leisure 43). 30 minutes from M6 Junction 43 Carlisle. Take the A69 east to Greenhead and the A6318 Military Road signed Chollerford to Once Brewed. At the Youth Hostel turn left and head up the hill until you reach the Steel Rigg car park on the right. Parking £3 for the day.
Car share from Carlisle at 10am - call leader to arrange.

Walk time 5.5 - 6 hours
Distance 12 miles
Highest Point 345m
Grade 2-3 (undulating but 3 due to distance)
Please bring plenty to eat and drink as well as clothes for all weathers as the terrain can be quite harsh. If the weather is really bad we will have the opportunity to cut the walk down in length.

Opportunity for drink afterwards at the Twice Brewed Inn.

Sat 18 June - Wild Camp

18th June - opportunity for a wild camp by Derwentwater, (very weather dependant!!)

This will be a good 'taster' for anyone thinking of trying a wildcamp. The club does have some tents that people can borrow, will need to get in touch with Rob to arrange this. Must get in touch with Emma by Wednesday 15th June if interested. Possibility of some communal cooking with everyone making a contribution towards cost. Parking will be a problem so will need to do as much car sharing as possible.

Tue 7 June 2011 - Evening Walk - Reston Scar

The prominent peak of Reston Scar is one of the most recognisable sights when travelling between Kendal and Windermere, and walking to the top is a pleasant way to spend an evening.
A short ascent on tracks and grassy paths soon takes us to the summit and a great viewpoint for such a small hill. Descending through fields, a little further on is the lower peak of Hugill Fell. The path returns us back into Staveley where welcome refreshment awaits.

Distance: 2 miles
Time: 1.5 hrs
Total ascent: 170m

Sat 4 Jun - Bike Ride– Iron Keld & Tilberthwaite

We make a gentle start down the river from Elterwater to Skelwith Bridge, then meander along lanes to Knipe Fold. A long, steady climb on byway and forest track to Iron Keld is rewarded with 2km of flowing downhill. Briefly onto the A593, then track down through Hodge Close quarry and up to High Tilberthwaite. Next comes the only challenging offroad climb on the route, but the fast rocky descent into Little Langdale more than compensates. After a potential stop at the Three Shires, follow the ‘challenging option’ signpost before taking the slightly more challenging option of the rutted, rooty descent through Sawrey’s Wood. Wind down with an easy loop up Great Langdale past Oak Howe and back to the Britannia.

Start: Meet at Britannia Inn, Elterwater (NY328048) 10:30am
Distance: 26km / 16 miles: 7 miles road, 9 miles offroad
Ascent (and just as importantly, descent): 700m / 2,300ft
Time: 3–4 hours
Grade: Red
