Feb 19 - Black Combe

A circuit over the most southerly fell in the Lake District, involving a noticeable amount of ascent (and descent!) on grassy paths.

A short road section leads to an old path, before starting the ascent up White Combe, which eventually flattens and the going becomes easier. After reaching the col at Whitecombe Head, further ascent takes us to the shelter cairn and trig point of Black Combe. On a clear day, this offers wonderful views of Morecambe Bay and the Isle of Man. The descent down the eastern flank of the combe is on close-cropped grass, and is steep (and possibly slippy) in places.

An alternative route may be taken if the weather decides to be unfriendly.

Distance: 6 miles
Time: 4.5 hours
Total ascent: 600m
Grade: 3
Start: 10 am at lay-by on the A595 at Beckside . Grid ref. SD 153847.

Sat 18 Social - Pizza and beer at the brewery

We should have recovered from xmas by now so its time for a social. I know its last minute but I feel like a beer and pizza at the moment. So plan is to meet at the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal at 6:30 this Saturday. No need to pre-book but will be nice to know who's coming so we can wait for you and know how big a table we need to grab.

Feb 12 - Elterwater, Little Langdale & Skelwith Bridge - Ladies Day

A ladies only walk starting at Elterwater car park across from the Britannia Inn.

This is a mainly low level walk with just a few modest climbs, through a pleasant lanscape of fields, woods and waterfalls at the lower end of the two Langdales. Two waterfalls are passed and the end is a classic Lake District view, looking across Elterwater to the distinctive outline of the Langdale Pikes.

Distance: 6 miles
Time: 3 - 3.5 hours
Grade: 1

Start time: 11am

After the walk there will be the opportunity for lovely cake and hot drinks at Chesters at Skelwith Bridge. New members very welcome. Hope to see you there.
