Leader: Mel
Car Parking: Seathwaite NY236123 (free parking on lane)
Start / Finish: End of the lane at Seathwaite, at the farm entrance.
Meet Time: 8.45am
Start Time: 9.00am
Route: A circular walk up the highest peak in England starting from Seathwaite.
From the start follow the path up the valley to Stockley Bridge then continue alongside Grains Gill then up the steepening path beside the ravine of Ruddy Gill. Joining the main path connecting Langdale and Wasdale head left to Esk Hause then curve round Calf Cove. With a small detour up to Great End (for those who are ticking Wainwrights), retrace the route back to the main path continuing ever upwards towards Broad Crag before dropping steeply to a col and then up to the summit of Scafell Pike itself. Hopefully it will be a clear day and the panoramic views of the highest peak can be appreciated. Descending to Lingmell Col take the Corridor Route to Styhead Tarn then follow Styhead Gill back down to Stockley Bridge and retrace the path to the cars.
It may well still be wintry conditions up top at the start of March so please bring appropriate kit, including a headtorch (though the plan is to be down before dark).
Distance: 9.5miles
Time: 7 - 8 hours depending on breaks
Grade: Strenuous
Please let Mel know in advance by 5.00 pm on Saturday if you are coming on this walk - text 07584303975.
I reserve the right to modify the route or cancel the walk dependent on weather conditions.
