Sun 9 August - High Raise
Unfortunately I have had no takers for the walk tomorrow, and so I regretfully will have to cancel. The weather forecast has probably put people off.
A long walk across the quiet Martindale fells, with fine views over Haweswater, and a chance to retrace the steps of the ancient Roman road.
A steady climb on grassy paths to Pinnacle Howe, Four Stones Hill, and Low Kop, before reaching the Roman road to Red crag and High Raise. Descent via Low Raise, The Forces waterfalls and back along the lakeside edge.
Distance: 11.5 miles
Highest point: 802 m
Time: 6.5 hours
Grade: 3 Strenuous
Start: 10.00 am at Burnbanks car park, Grid ref: NY508161.
Directions: From the A6 in Shap, follow signs to Bampton until you cross the small stone bridge at Bampton Grange, then turn left (signposted Haweswater). Follow signs to Haweswater, until you reach a signpost for Burnbanks, where you turn right and follow the road until you reach the car park opposite the phone box.
