Sun 29 Mar - Yarlside and The Calf

A walk over hills and down dales in the Howgill fells, where the easternmost part of Cumbria borders the Yorkshire Dales. Starting from the historic Temperance Inn at Cross Keys, a steady ascent on grassy paths gradually steepens towards the top of Yarlside (639 m). The descent into Bowderdale leads to a stream crossing, before another climb to the summit of The Calf (at 676 m, this is the highest point in the Howgills). On a clear day, views of the Lake district fells and the three Yorkshire peaks can be seen from here. Descent via Bram rigg top and Calders leads back to the start point.
