Sun 22 Mar - Levers Water from Coniston

Start Point: Blackbull Inn in Coniston (G.R. - SD 302 976) @ 11.00

Free parking is available close by: take the road off the A593 that runs alongside the beer garden at the side of the Black Bull pub. Drive for a short distance and there is parking on the left.

Description:
Starting from the Black Bull Inn we follow the road alongside the pub until we reach a track which runs alongside Church Beck up to Miners Bridge. We then head towards the Youth Hostel and up to Levers Water. Levers Water is a naturally occuring tarn, but was enlarged by a dam in 1717 to provide water and power to the coppermines below. It now supplies water to Coniston and the surrounding villages. After leaving Levers Water we descend back to Coniston via the Pudding Stone.
