Sun 29th Nov - Binsey from Bassenthwaite

A more interesting way of doing the most northly Wainwright, incorporating a part of the Cumbrian Way!

Park in Bassenthwaite Village at 'Back Hill' (Grid Ref 231323), which is by the Avenue of trees on the Village green, next to the bus stop. Alternatively you can park in the Sun Inn overspill car park, but please inform the pub that you have done this.(We will be having a drink in there later).

The walk ascends quite steeply through Park Wood, then it is relatively flat through high Bewaldeth and onto Fell End Farm including a short road section. From here we ascend Binsey (447m) from the West and then drop down the other side. A short stretch on the road takes us past Overwater Hall, before open fields and a section of the Cumbrian Way, returns us back through Park Wood.

NOTE: THIS WALK IS LIKELY TO BE VERY MUDDY AFTER RECENT RAINFALL. INCASE OF FURTHER BAD WEATHER PLEASE ADVISE LEADER IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO JOIN THE WALK INCASE THE WALK IS CANCELLED AT THE LAST MINUTE.

27th or 28th Nov - Carlisle Night out

I am organising a night out to go on a pub crawl in the pubs/clubs on Botchergate, Carlisle for weekend of friday 27th or saturday 28th of november depending on which night most people would be available. I could have up to 3 people stay at my house as long as you don`t mind sharing a room with another or sleep on the floor. Sun 22nd Nov - Grasmere {CANCELLED}

THIS WALK IS CANCELLED DUE TO FLOODING, SORRY...

Start: Layby A591, north of Grasmere, near Swan Pub. GR: 339 084

Nearest toilets: Car Park GR 339 073 - we won't be passing them from start point

Easedale to Easedale tarn, Stythwaite Steps, up Far Easedale, Brownrigg Moss, Calf Crag, Moment Crag, Gibson Knot, Helm Crag and back to Grasmere.

14km, 5 - 51/2 hours. Grasmere 89m --> highest point 537m
This walk was very wet and boggy when I did it!
Tea shop at end

If anyone is interested in this walk pls get in touch as will be weather dependant. The route can be changed to a short low level walk with pub lunch at the end, however the roads are very flooded at the moment and travel there may prove difficult.

Sun 15th Nov - Bannisdale Horseshoe

A circular walk taking in some of the minor tops just above Kendal.
Includes Whiteside Pike, Todd Fell, Capplebarrow, Ancrow Brow, White Howe and Lamb Pasture. Walk is described in Wainwrights outlying fells books.

Majority of walk is over sheep tracks with indistinct or no path and could be boggy if it has been wet. Fantastic views of the kentmere horseshoe, howgills and shap fells if clear.

Start - roadside on Mosergh Road. lots of parking space. Very minor road. just off the A6 north of Kendal. Approx 100m after the road to Longsleddale from Kendal or from Shap just after the road to Selside school and church turning right. Grid Ref SD530999 Map OL7

Sun 8th Nov - Eskdale / Ravenglass

Ramble along the Ravenglass Railway to Dalegarth with return journey by train.
From Ravenglass we go up Muncaster fell, down into Eskdale green . We turn sharp left and down to Boot and Dalegarth station.

We will aim to catch the 2:40 Steam train. The last train is the 3:40 Diesel train.

Sun 25th Oct - Fairfield Horseshoe

Start: 9:30am, Pelter bridge carpark - 365059
We will walk past rydal church and back towards Ambleside
on the footpath that goes though Rydal park. We will then
asend past low and then high sweeden bridge. High Pike,
Dove Crag, Hart Crag before reaching Fairfield. We will then
descend via Great Pike, Heron Pike and back down to rydal hall
where there is tearoom so let's hope it is open.
Grade:3 in book but I would say 3/4

23rd - 28th Oct - Cateran Trail Wild Camp

Travelling to start evening of Friday 23rd after work returning Wednesday 28th.

Planning to camp with possible bothy on first night. The route is 58 miles long and is covered by the Explorer Maps 381, 387, and 388.

We would appreciate being able to borrow the maps if anyone has a copy or mapping software for Scotland!

Can anyone that wants to walk the Cateran Trail please let Emma or Vicky know for definate by the 1st October as we need to sort out numbers for the first nights accommodation. This will be a B&B, cost may be in the range of £30 / £40.

A gentle walk with great views in the Kentmere Valley. Exploring the West side of the valley before passing through Kentmere with a tea and cake stop at Magg's Howe. Then moving onto Skeggles Water and back down into the valley.

Sun 11th Oct - Place Fell 2154ft


Start 10.00 AM at Patterdale, parking in layby or carpark opposite phone box and opposite White Lion P H

Distance 8 Miles (13km)

Duration 5 hours Grade 2 easy to medium.

Ascent 2000 ft

Car share meet at Morrisons car park in Kendal at 9am (leader not there)
Windermere station 9.15am for anyone in Windermere area (phone if you want a lift)

Place Fell 657m lies on the eastern side of Ullswater near the head of the lake, easily seen and easily accessible from Patterdale. The climb to the summit is not too strenuous and the views from it are dramatic and extensive. From the top we continue along the edge of the lonely, quiet valley of Boredale, overlooked by the bare slopes of Martindale Common, before dropping to the lake at Sandwick. The final section, along a path above the shores of Ullswater, one of the lovliest walks in the Lake District, taking us back to Patterdale.

Start Point: beside Kentmere Church (G.R. NY 456 041) only room for about 10 cars - so, if full, there are a few spaces beside the farm @ NY 460 040 that's about ½ mile away @ 11.00

Description: Kentmere church / Kentmere Hall farm / Whiteside End / thru 2 gates / past bog & rushes (on R) / grass (on R) / when B/W climbs turn R & go up slope / at about ½ way along the grassy hollow turn L (straight uphill) to a gate & stile / quarry & tractor tracks // to each other / follow tractor one / just after crossing stream turn R (goes uphill & follows tractor track again) / fellside becomes pathless but aim for a gap between 2 craggy outcrops / pass to R side of L one (Long Crag) / at clearer path continue climbing L / pass grouse butts / summit of Sallows / well before the craggy outcrops (on L) turn R (on narrow path) / down & R of conifer plantation / stile / gate / turn R & descend Garburn Pass to Kentmere

Distance: 5 miles (8 km)
Total Ascent: 371 metres (1217 ft.)

High Point: Sallows - 516 metres (1693 ft.)

Time: 3 - 3½ hours

Grade: 2 - 3

Sunday 27th Sept 2009 - High Raise and Ullscarf

Description: From Rosthwaite we head up to Dock Tarn, then head on up to Ullscarf, and on to High Raise then via Sergeant Man to Thunacar Knott. From there we will return via Sergeant's Crag and Eagle Crag.
