Sunday 13th September - Skiddaw
The ridge of Ullock Pike and Longside is steep, but a great way to climb to the summit of Skiddaw for cracking views of Back o’ Skiddaw and the Solway. We descend via Birketts Edge to Whitewater Dash Waterfall. Skiddaw can be a hard mountain to tame – inclement weather has defeated the group the last three times we’ve attempted to summit her, so be prepared for snow and hurricane force wind.
Length: 8.5 miles
Time: about 6 hours
Ascent: 800 metres
Grade: 3
Start: 10:00am at the tiny layby on the road to Orthwaite 0.25 miles north of the junction with A591. NGR: NY 237 311

LDSAMRA thank you letter
1/9/09
On behalf of LDSAMRA may I offer you and your companions a very big "congratulations" on your achievement and an even bigger thank you for all the money you have raised for Mountain Rescue in the Lake District. I have just checked your justgiving.com page and I calculate you have raised a total of £3,219.74; an incredible amount.
Would you please pass on a very big thank you to everyone who took part in the Wainwright Challenge, both as participants, supporters or sponsors. It is something of an achievement and I don't think anyone has used AW's books in quite such a novel way.
If you could let me have details of your meeting on 12 September I will try to organise someone to come along and say a few words.
Many thanks and best wishes to you all.
Richard Longman (Treasurer)

Sunday 23rd August - Ennerdale Horseshoe
The start point is at approx. GR number NY 0850 1536 at the carpark at the end of Ennerdale. Turn right where there is a forestry sign for Broadmoor after the turning from Ennerdale Bridge.
The idea behind this is to provide a challenging walk that will not be beyond the fitter members of the group. It will consist of the hills that form the Ennerdale skyline. Total distance has yet to be determined as there are a few route options ranging from 22 miles up to 29 miles. The current intention is to go for 23.5miles and 10,000 feet of ascent.
Please note the idea behind this walk is to present the group with a challenge.
Anyone present on the day should be prepared for this with appropriate clothing and equipment. You should have your own map and be prepared to use it. There will be options for people to drop out, however they must be prepared to navigate themselves back to the start point.
Leader: Paul B (mob 07752 116979)
Due to the challenging nature of this walk, on this occasion please contact the leader for start time and full details.
