Sun 14 June - Great Asby Scar

A walk around one of the best examples of unspoilt limestone pavement in Britain, nestled inbetween the Howgills and Wild Boar Fell.

Starting from Orton village, the walk crosses farmland and down quiet country lanes, before joining the Coast to Coast path. After a short ascent, we leave the grassy path behind and reach a vast expanse of limestone pavement (whose surface will be uneven, so care must be taken). Passing an ancient Roman settlement on the way, we eventually rejoin the grass track and make our way to Beacon Fell, with its Victorian jubilee monument. Returning to Orton on farmland paths, there will be the opportunity to treat yourself with chocolate and icecream at the Chocolate factory.

Free parking in Orton village centre..
