Start Point: Coniston's main Pay & Display car park, next to the Tourist Information Centre. (G.R. - SD 303 975) @ 10.00. Free parking is available close by: take the road off the A593 that runs alongside the beer garden at the side of the Black Bull pub. Drive for a short distance and there is parking on the left.
Description: We take the road up past the Black Bull pub and turn right onto the path which runs along the foot of the Yew Dale Fells. At Yew Tree Farm we cross the A593 and walk up past the Tom Gill waterfalls to Tarn Hows. Leaving the path half way around Tarn Hows, we walk through the Iron Keld and Arnside Plantations to Black Crag which has spectacular views over Windermere and the Coniston fells. On the return we retrace our footsteps to Tarn Hows and continue to the car park. The path next to the car park takes us back to Coniston and a welcome pub/cafe stop.
