Social - Kendal Mountain Festival
Date: Friday 15th November
Time: 20.30 (doors open 20.00)
Price: £12.50 each
Synopsis: The Last Great Climb tells the incredible story of Leo Houlding, Sean Leary, Jason Pickles and filmmaker Alastair Lee attempting an unclimbed route on the granite tower of Ulvetanna in Queen Maud Land, eastern Antarctica. Alone in the icy wilderness, conditions were good until the summit was in reach when, totally committed, the weather window closed and temperatures plummeted...

Suggest meeting in town, at the Brewery at 7pm, or direct at the Leisure Centre just before 8pm & will let everyone make their own eating arrangements as I think we’d only be late to the film if we tried a group meal first.
If there is enough interest, I will see if I can negotiate a group discount - though as I aim to book my tickets next week I would need a quick response. It looks like it is already pretty popular hence my interest in booking early & quickly (before my hols).
Please let me know by Wednesday September 11th if you want me to try & get tickets as part of a group booking (I am booking mine on the 11th or 12th).
Please also indicate if you are happy for me to buy tickets even if there is no discount, so the seats are together.
If I do end up buying tickets, I will ask for any money due to be paid by end September please!
Thanks,
Alastair

Sun 3 Nov - Mallerstang
Description: A walk along the whole length of the beautiful Mallerstang Valley from one end to the other. This is made possible by catching a train from Kirkby Stephen Railway Station to the start of the walk at Garsdale Railway Station. The walk passes the remains of Pendragon and Lammerside Castles and takes in a variety of landscapes: boggy moorland; fell edge; lowland valley pasture and woodland.
Start Point: Kirkby Stephen Railway Station. NY 762 067. We need to catch the 10:21 train from Platform 2 (signposted Trains to Leeds) and the group will meet on this platform. A single ticket is advertised at £3.80. There is plenty of free at parking at, and near to, Kirkby Stephen Railway Station. The train is due to arrive at Garsdale Station at 10:34, from where we will start the walk. You can meet the group at Garsdale Station, if easier.
Start Time: 10:21am train from Kirkby Stephen (10:34am from Garsdale Station).
Distance: 12.5 miles
Total Ascent: about 300 metres
Time: about 6 hours. Note that a reasonably steady walking pace (by no means fast though) will need to be maintained so that we return to the start point by dusk and hopefully in some daylight.
Grade: 3
Leader: Jeremy 07899 923019. You MUST let the leader know you are coming by 8:30am on Sunday morning at the latest. If no-one has contacted the leader by 8:30am Sunday the walk will be cancelled.
