Sun 4 Dec - Castlerigg Stone Circle and Latrigg

A low level walk with some steep ascent, that brings you from the lakeside to a Neolithic stone circle, and then on to the summit of Latrigg for a rewarding view of Keswick and Derwent water.

From Keswick town centre, the walk takes us up to the top of Castlehead, then down to the lakeside and on to Friar's crag. Crossing into Great wood, ascending the forest track to Castlerigg farm then leads us into fields and eventually to Castlerigg stone circle. After pausing to explore this ancient monument, we then stroll down country lanes to the A66 underpass and start the ascent of Latrigg. This route is highly recommended for those who have been only been to Latrigg from the nearby car park, and gone away disappointed, as this brings a new perspective to such a little hill. Descending along the Cumbria Way and through Fitz park takes us back to the start point.

Time: 4.5 hours
