This is a lovely walk that wanders round tracks, through fields and woods taking in the best that the Autumn season has to offer. At this time of year all the trees are changing colour and the landscape is changing. This walk has been carefully choosen to show the best of this.
Starting in Elterwater we head towards Little Langdale climbing steadily through an old quarry to Slaters Bridge and on to High Tilberthewaite. The walk then follows a series of footpaths and metalled tracks dropping down into Coniston where we will stop at a tea shop. This is approx half way.
Leaving Coniston we continue through a series of fields and forestry tracks showing the trees at their best. The route then continues past Tom Ghyll falls ascending to Tarn Hows. We will walk alongside the Tarn for a while before taking a stoney bridleway that contours round Black Fell and takes us back to Elterwater for further refreshment.
Start: 9.30 am Elterwater, car park north of B5343, (free). GR: 329 051
