Description: A walk through two of the more remote dales of the eastern Lakes. Starting at Mardale Head, the path ascends steeply to Gatesgarth Pass and the head of Longsleddale. From here, our path leads through Mosedale and past Mosedale Cottage. Descending near Forces Falls to Swindale (dubbed ‘a shy and beautiful little valley’ by Wainwright), the route returns to Haweswater via the Old Corpse Road path. Start: Mardale Head car park, Haweswater, grid reference NY 470 108 @ 10am

Terrain: two ascents (320m and 210m) on tracks, some boggy areas in Mosedale but no technical difficulties
