Description:
This is a top walk following the remote V-shaped valley of Carlingill into the Howgills. We ascend beside The Spout, an impressive waterfall, and onto the central fells of The Howgills – Docker Knott, Bush Howe & the highest of them all, The Calf (676 metres high). We drop into the Lune Valley and return on paths above the river. It should be noted that the path through Carlingill is narrow and steep in a couple of places, but is not beyond the capabilities of most fell walkers.
Start/Car Share:
Meet at the small car park on the start of the track to Borrowdale, on the west side of A685 (opposite the turning to Low Borrowbridge). NGR: SD 607 014. We will need to car share from this point to the start of the walk because of the limited parking at Carlingill.
