Sun 10th Oct - Scafell (not Pike)

Scafell is a mountain that we rarely ascend. This walk offers the opportunity to tackle this interesting mountain. I have chosen the easiest route to make it ok for those with a fear of heights. Ascent via the grassy slopes on the west side of the mountain and descent via Foxes Tarn, and down from the Mickledore Ridge. Back to Wasdale Head. If weather permits and we are feeling energetic, there is the possibility of ascending Scafell Pike also which would add about an hour to the walk. The route is not particularly difficult for a person of reasonable fitness.

Start time 10.05 am
Parking at Wasdale Head Green (free) NY 187085
Distance 6.25 miles - 7 miles (depending on whether we ascend Scafell Pike also)
Low wood suggested meeting time 9.05am (I will not be there)
Time 4.5 - 6 hours (depending on whether we ascend Scafell Pike also)
Ascent 1050m - 1200m (depending on whether we ascend Scafell Pike also)
Grade 4
