Sun 4th Apr - Yorkshire 3 Peaks

Ideal training walk for those doing the keswick to barrow or for those who want something a bit different.

Start: Ribblehead Viaduct free parking. Map OL2 GR Ref 734792.
Take A65 to Ingleton then second left turn in village sign posted Hawes. Follow B6255for approx 6 miles to Station Inn pub and Viaduct which is easy to see on approach.

This walk is the famous circuit of the Yorkshire 3 peaks - Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside which we will be completing in this order. We will be following the traditional route used by most three-peakers. To reach Pen-y-ghent we will cross fields walking on some of the dales way. This is 8 miles and our longest section. On leaving the summit we descend down the steep side of Pen-y-ghent into Horton in Ribblesdale. Crossing the railway line we ascend a gentle path over little Ingleborough to the summit of Ingleborough. Another steep descent takes us to Chapel-le-dale where the ascent of our final summit Whernside starts which is also the steepest. A gradual descent returns to the car at the Viaduct. We are aiming to complete between 10-11 hours.

Option of meal in Station Inn after. Not too expensive and good quality.

Start - 8.30am
