Photos from 27th Jun - Tebay Fells

Sun 27th Jun - Tebay Fells

A chance to get away from it all and explore the peace and quiet of some less frequented hills, just nextdoor to the M6.

After a quiet road section from Tebay to Gaisgill we turn off along Cowbound Lane to start the first big ascent, which will be Middleton. Carrying on up to Simon's Seat, we then continue along the ridge to Wethercalf Moss and Bleagill Head (option here to add on Wind Scarth) before skirting round to Over Sale and Docker Knott. Another steep ascent takes us to the summit of Uldale Head, followed by an easy stroll over to Blease Fell. A gradual descent over Powson Knott takes us back to Tebay.

Grade: 3/4

Distance: 11 miles

High point: Simon's Seat (587m)
Duration: approx. 6 hours

Start: 10.00am outside the The Old School Tearooms (from M6 Junction 38, turn right at roundabout onto A685 for Tebay, then left - teashop is on corner, free parking along road. Grid Ref NY 618044).

Sun 6th June - Borrowdale (nr Kendal)

T`other Borrowdale

This walk follows the quiet and uncrowded "other" Borrowdale between Kendal and Tebay, along the southern ridge from the A6, taking in Ashstead Fell (469) Mabbin Crag (482) Castle Fell (478) and Whinfell Beacon (472) hopefully giving us good views towards the Howgills, Tebay and south beyond Kendal. We can either return up the valley bottom or along the northern ridge of Borrowdale Edge passing Winterscleugh (464) and Whinash (471).
If there`s time and that wasn`t enough, the walk can be extended to include Crookdale Crag and a drop down into neighbouring Bretherdale.
Alot of the terrain will be rough moorland following a slight track - it may be quite boggy in parts after wet weather and involves a fair bit of ascent/descent in total. If bad weather then probably stick to the valley bottom.

Start Point - Lay by just above Huck`s Bridge on the A6 NY 553 038

Time - 9.30am

Length - about 8 miles.12 miles if extended

Duration - about 6 hours
