Sun 14th May - Coledale Horseshoe

Car Parking: Small car park just outside Braithwaite at the bottom of Whinlatter Pass (B5292), grid reference NY227237. There is normally a bit of space on the side of the road below the car park entrance if needed.

Start/Finish Point: Small car park at the base of Whinlatter Pass, grid reference NY227237. 

Meet Time: 9.15am

Start Time: 9.30am

Description: This is a circular route encompassing some classic Lakeland Fells near to Keswick.

Route: From the car park we immediately begin the ascent of Grisedale Pike, which is initially arduous before becoming slightly easier going before the final climb to the top. From the summit we head along the ridge to Hopegill Head before walking down Sand Hill toward Coledale Hause. After a moment of respite we will continue upwards to the peak of Crag Hill (Eel Crag). This is the highest point of the walk and we descend from here to Sail Fell and then Causey Pike before following the path back to Braithwaite. 

High Point: Crag Hill – 839m.

Distance: Approx 10 miles

Time: Approx 6-6.5 hours 

Grade: Strenuous

As this is quite a mountainous route please bring appropriate clothing and footwear, as well a packed lunch. I reserve the right to modify the route or cancel the walk depending on our progress or the weather conditions. Please bring a torch or head torch in case we are delayed in getting back.

Sun 7th May - Haweswater Fells

Meet Time: 9.15am

Car Parking: Small free car park at Mardale Head
Description: From the car park we begin with the ascent following the path past Small Water tarn to the Nan Bield pass. When we reach the cross roads of paths at the summit of the pass we head left toward the top of our first Wainwright, Harter Fell. From the cairn we head down towards Gatesgarth Pass then follow the boundary fence up to the top of our 2nd Wainwright, Branstree. From here we continue along the ridge, past Branstree Tarn, toward our final Wainwright - Selside Pike. We drop down from the summit via Selside End to intercept the Mosedale Old Corpse Road. This takes us back to the main road which we follow back to the car park.
Distance: 6-7  miles
Grade: Strenuous
Time: approx 5-6 hours.
Notes: If the conditions are bad I reserve the right to modify the route or cancel the walk. Length and time are approximates as I've not done this exact route before but have extended a walk that I've done a few times in the past.
