Sun 19th Feb - High Stile Ridge

Car Parking: National Trust (NY173172) or Lake District National Park (NY172169) car parks in Buttermere
Start / Finish: Fish Hotel , Buttermere (NY172169)
Meet Time: 9.15am
Start Time: 9.30am
Route: Starting from the Fish Hotel in Buttermere, head along the track past the hotel bearing left towards Buttermere lake.  Following the well made path along the lakeside to the southern end start to ascend up the path towards Scarth Gap.  At the Gap bear right to the first summit of the day, High Crag, hopefully enjoying the views on the way.  Continue along the ridge to the highest peak High Stile at 806m before descending to the last summit, Red Pike.  Avoiding the main path down to Buttermere as this is very steep and loose, head north east descending to Scale Beck.  Taking in Scale Force, the highest waterfall in the Lake Districst, follow either of the paths down the side of the beck and falls to reach Crummock Water (the path can be pretty boggy on the approach to the lake).  Follow the main route back to Buttermere village.
The ascent to the top of the ridge has sections which are steep and loose.

Distance: 9 miles
Ascent: ~700m
Time: 5-6 hours
Grade: Strenuous

Please let Mel know in advance by 5.00 pm on Saturday if you are coming on this walk - text 07584303975.
