Starts with a walk through the reed beds of Leighton Moss RSPB nature reserve, then through the grounds of Leighton Hall & along the coast to Jenny Brown's Point. Then past some of Silverdale's limestone crags. Then (fingers crossed) we'll finish with a dusk starling murmuration at Leighton Moss.

Sun 22 Dec - Ambleside/Jenkin Crag/Wansfell
Start Point: Roadside parking beside the River Rothay / Rothay Park, Ambleside (G.R. NY 371044 @ 11.00)
Description: The park & Ambleside centre (food re-supply possible) / Skelghyll Wood / Jenkin Crag / High & Low Skelghyll farms / Hundreds Road / Wansfell Pike / Stockghyll Park & Falls / Ambleside
Since this walk is on the day after 'the shortest day of the year' can everyone bring a torch / headtorch / candle / something 'lit'

Total Ascent: 467 metres (1532 ft.)
High Point: Wansfell Pike - 482 metres (1581 ft.)

Sun 15 Dec - Beacon Tarn
Start Point: Brown Howe Cark Park on the A5084 (SD 290 910) at 11.00. This is a pay and display car park. Alternatively there are some free spaces opposite the entrance.
Description: Wainwright in his book the Outlying Fells of Lakeland describes Beacon Fell as ‘amongst the most delectable of the lesser heights of Lakeland. It is an epitome of all that appeals to fellwalkers’.From the car park, we cross the road and follow a path until we see a signpost for the Cumbria Way. We then follow the Cumbria Way until we reach the far end of Beacon Tarn. Finally we climb the short distance to the peak of Beacon Fell before descending to the cars.

Distance: 3.5 miles
Total ascent: 243 metres.

Sun 8 Dec - Arnside & Silverdale
This walk begins and ends in Arnside; the first half follows the coast with views across Morecambe Bay, along to Silverdale and back over Arnside Knott. The terrain includes estuary shoreline, low cliffs, woodland, fields and lanes. Full details of the walk are in the Winter 2013 edition of Walk magazine (published by The Ramblers Association). Meet at 10.00am at the car part at SD458790 at the northern end of the Promenade. Arnside railway station is also close by.
