Sun 24 Jul 2016 - The Helvellyn Range North to South

Car Parking: Small car park at Stanah (just off the junction on the A591 with B5322, "St John's in the Vale" road), grid reference NY 318190. Parking is also possible at Legburthwaite, NY 318195, though this is a pay-and-display car park
Start Point: Small car park at Stanah (just off the junction on the A591 with B5322, "St John's in the Vale" road, grid reference NY 318190).
Finish Point: The Travellers’ Rest Inn, Dunmail Raise, Grasmere, LA22 9RR. Grid reference NY 337 089.
Note: This is a linear walk. The return to the start / car parking will be by public transport (Stagecoach service 555 – Lancaster to Keswick). You will need to bring money for this.
Meet Time: 08.00 am
Start Time: 08.15 am
Description: This is a mountain walk with a mixture of high paths and moorland walking.
Route: From Stanah, we will ascend up to the top of Sticks Pass. At this point we will walk southwards, taking in the summits of Raise (884 m), White Side (862 m), Helvellyn (950 m), Nethermost Pike (891 m), Dollywaggon Pike (858 m) and Seat Sandal (736 m) before following Tongue Gill down to the Travellers’ Rest Inn for a very well-deserved lemonade and plate of chips!
High Point: Helvellyn summit (950 m) (approx. 1220 m height gain)
Distance: Approx. 9 miles (14.5 km)
Time: Approx. 8 hours
Grade: Strenuous
Note: This is long mountain day, although the walk itself will not be rushed. Please make sure you bring plenty of food and drink for a long day in the mountains. As this walk is in summer, the risk of sunburn and/or sunstroke exists, so please have sunblock, lip balm, hat and sun glasses with you.

If the conditions are bad I reserve the right to modify the route or cancel the walk. During the walk, if the group is not moving a smoothly as I would like it to I may decide to alter the route to reduce the total ascent. If insufficient interest is shown in the walk it may be cancelled.
