Sat 20 Nov - Social - Kendal

Hi all, the plan for the social is to go to something at the mountain film festival late afternoon / early evening then go for a meal and a couple of drinks. Having looked at the website I found the following links which are things on at 4:30pm on Saturday. These things can be booked separately, however, if you want to see any of the films you need to buy a day pass. Think I will see the Ski Paddle Norway. You need to book your own tickets for one of these if you fancy.

After the talk / presentation we can meet for a drink in the brewery before going to the Joshua Tree for a meal at 7:30pm. I have provisionally booked a table for 10. Please let me know by next Friday the 5th November if you want to come to the meal. There is no set menu and prices for main course range from £9 - £12. Pudding £4 - 5. The food has been good there in the past so presume it is still the same. Hope lots of you can make it, should be good fun in Kendal that weekend!

Sun 7 Nov - Coniston Old Man

A high level walk on easy paths with dramatic panoramic views. A long climb through old copper mines to Low water then becomes steeper towards the summit of Coniston Old Man. This is followed by a gentler ridge walk to Brim Fell and on to Swirl How. From here there is a steep descent to Wetherlam down the Prison Band, and then a easier path down Lad Stones ridge to the end.
As this is a high level route, it is subject to change if the weather is bad, in which case an alternative low level walk will take place.
Distance: 7.8 miles
Total ascent: 700m
Time: 5.5 hrs
Grade: 3
Start: 10 am. Parking by the side of the road rising to Coppermines valley track (SD 300979). From the main road in Coniston, take the turning with the Black Bull Inn on the corner, and continue straight on past a junction on the left, to tree-lined walls where there is space to park on the roadside.
