Fri 21 Feb - 10th anniversary social - Kendal

Following feedback from the group, I suggest the following to celebrate ten years of Summitt Good! Meet in the Miles Thompson (Kendal Wetherspoons) from 7pm for drinks with the option of ordering food. At around 8.30 we will make our way over the road and down the street for drinks at Burgundy's where popular folk band 'A Room Full of Mirrors' are performing from 9pm. Come along at any part of the evening you wish. Burgundy's does not serve food in the evenings.

Please let Sarah know on 07818 366665 if you plan to attend so I know to look out for you and can try to get a big enough table.

Sat/Sun 8-9 Feb - Winter Walking Weekend in Crianlarich

Staying at Crianlarich SYHA in 3 or 4 bed dorms. £16 pppn.

There are several munroes easily accessible from Crianlarich in the Crianlarich Hills, Tyndrum Hills & Arrochar Alps. However if you don't fancy the mountains there are loads of beautiful low level walks in the area including sections of The West Highland Way.

If you would like to come please let Babs (07843567097) or Jeremy (07899923019) by 2nd Feb 14.

PLEASE NOTE: If you want to do the mountain routes & there is snow on the tops you will require full winter kit including ice axe & crampons. We're not planning anything too ambitious so if you are able to borrow/hire kit instruction can be given.

Photos from Kentmere

4 of us braved the mixed conditions (which were actually better than forecast) & enjoyed a good day out followed by a well-earned coffee/cake @ Wilfs in Staveley

Sunday 2 February 2014

Sun 2 Feb - Kentmere Horseshoe

Meet time: 09:00 – 09:15
Walk start: 09:30
Start point: Kentmere Church (grid ref NY 456 041) **
Distance: Approx. 12.5 miles
Time: Approx. 6.5-7 hours
Grade: 4
High point: 828m @ High St.
Leader: Alastair (07584 300306)
Description: Briefly the walk will take in: Buck Crag - Yoke - Ill Bell – Froswick – Thornthwaite Crag - High St - Mardale Ill Bell - Nan Bield Pass - Harter Fell - Kentmere Pike - Rough Crags - Wray Crag

If the weather (i.e. high winds) denies us this option, the alternative is to walk up to Kentmere reservoir along the valley, up to Nan Bield Pass, onto Harter Fell & down into Longsleddale at Gatesgarth pass before returning to Kentmere via Sadgill.

Please note that if the tops are in winter conditions, an ice axe & crampons will be necessary.

A head-torch will also be required in case we get delayed. Sunset is approximately 16:50 so we should be down in plenty of time but best to be prepared!

**Depending on who/how many are attending I may arrange to meet just Staveley and drive up to the start in as few cars as possible, due to limited parking in Kentmere.

In this case it would be 09:00 at the parking just past Barley Bridge (approx. SD 469 987). I will arrange this directly with those attending if necessary.
