There are more of Paul's photos. If anyone would like them please drop me an email - hattie22@btopenworld.com

Sun 31st May - High Cup Nick from Dufton

High Cup Nick is a classic U-shaped valley high on the western flanks of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

A deep chasm on the Pennine fellside, this famous nick, a dramatic geological formation at the top of High Cup Gill is part of the well-known Whin Sill, and overlooks the best glaciated valley in Northern England. Here you can see the grey-blue dolerite crags which also form High Force and Cauldron Snout.

High Cup Nick is on the Pennine Way and can be reached from Cow Green on the border of Cumbria and County Durham, or Dufton in the Eden Valley.

Sun 24th May - Hartsop, High St, Angle Tarn

There's an easy walk from Hartsop along Pasture Bottom to start, then quite a steep ascent to Threshthwaite Mouth, onto Thornthwaite Crag, and finally up to High Street. Hopefully there will be good weather and wonderful views for the walk along the top, overlooking Hayeswater. We leave High Street at the Straits of Riggindale, walk over or round The Knott, then descend gently to Angle Tarn. Another lovely ridge takes us to Boredale Hause and views of Ullswater. The initial descent from there is quite steep but soon becomes an easy walk back to the car along the valley bottom.

Start: 10am at car park north of Brothers Water, grid ref NY 403134
Car share: suggest 9:30am at Low Wood but I won't be there

Distance: approx 10 miles
Total ascent: around 3600ft
Grade: 3/4 (not a difficult walk under foot though quite long)

Time: I 'recced' this walk in just over 4.5 hrs but with a group it's likely to take 5.5-6 hrs.

Leader: Ruth L 07950 085070

Rob and Alex are planning to wild camp at Angle Tarn on Sunday night (weather permitting) Meet in Patterdale, park opposite the White Lion Pub in layby or carpark.
We can have a meal in the pub early about 6pm then walk up to Angle Tarn about 1 hour to wild camp. Then head back down Monday morning.
