Est distance: About 8miles (excluding diversion)

UPDATE 30 AUG 08 11AM. AM AFRAID DUE TO INHJURY WILL NOT BE LEADING THIS WALK. JEREMY HAS SAID HE INTENDS TO WALK AND IS HAPPY FOR ANYONE STILL INTERESTED TO COME. PLEASE CALL HIM ON 07899923019 IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
SORRY EVERYONE!!!

Hi, sorry, due to lack of time for a proper recce of the Caldbeck Fells, I am going to plump for an old favourite of mine. Meeting at the car park at the far end of Haweswater at 10am we climb Gatescarth Pass, turning right up to Harter Fell. From here we will drop down to the shelter at Nan Bield Pass, before continuing up to Mardale Ill Bell. There is now an optional extention to Thornthwaite Beacon and then onto High Street. Next stop will be High Raise, before finally cutting back to bag Kidsty Pike (where we will stop in the hope of sighting the Golden Eagle in the valley below) before descending via Kidsty Howes back to the shore of Haweswater and down to the car park.

For car share I suggest 8:40 meeting at Morrisons in Kendal for car share (I obviously won't be there). I would suggest going up to Shap and dropping down to the reservoir from there.

Walk for 24th August - Lingmoor Fell/Pike of Blisco/Wetherlam Stroll

Start Point: As low down Wrynose Pass as possible (on the Little Langdale side)
(G.R. - NY 296032(?) @ 09.00)

Description: First we follow the gentle bridleway along the bottom of Little Langdale as far as the Slaters Bridge. After crossing the bridge & climbing (slightly) to the road (again), we proceed along the lane towards Elterwater. As we did (from the Elterwater side last time) we then go up & over Lingmoor Fell (possibly including the squeeze at the West end), then drop down to the Blea Tarn road. We cross straight over the road, then keep going up til we reach the top of Pike of Blisco (705m). From the top we head directly towards Red Tarn, before heading SE down to the Three Shire Stone on the top of Wrynose Pass. If necessary we can 'cop out' at this point & just head down the road to the cars. If not (hopefully!) we'll ascend on to Wet Side Edge, before 'bagging' Hell Gill Pike, Little Carrs, Great Carrs, Swirl How (highest point @ 800m) then following Prison Band along to Wetherlam. From the top it's 'just' a case of descending along Wetherlam Edge & down to the Greenburn Valley. From there it's only a mile or so back to the cars.

Distance: 11.75 miles (18.9 km)
Total Ascent: 1431 metres (4695 ft.)
High Point: Swirl How - 800 metres (2625 ft.)
Time: 8 hours
Grade: 4 / 5
Car Share: Meet at the Low Wood Hotel @ 08.15 (NB leader will not be present!)
Leader: Dan on 01229 832840 [eves.] or 07919 831237

Walk for 17th August- Angletarn Pikes (change to original plan)

Unfortunately I've had to revise my plans due to a recent foot infection, so am putting on a shorter walk!

Boredale Round: Beda Fell, Angletarn Pikes, Place Fell

Boredale is a quiet and pleasant valley to the east of southern Ullswater.

We start the walk at St Peter's Church, Martindale.

Passing Martindale Old Church, we continue over the bridge and strike up onto the flank of Beda Fell.

The long ridge of Beda Fell runs for about two miles, leading to the highest point, Beda Head (1,607ft / 509 m). We carry straight on until we reach Angle Tarn, which is a good place for lunch.

At Angle Tarn, we take the Patterdale path to Boardale Hause, for the steepish climb up Place Pell. From the summit, we take the path to the east of High Dodd, before dropping back down into Boredale at Garth Heads, where we return via the little road to St Peter's Church.

Start: St Peter's Church, Martindale (opposite Hallin Fell), NY 435192
Start time: 09.30 AM, 08.30 AM from Morrisons car park in Kendal for car sharing
Length: approx. 8 miles / 12.5 kms
Ascent: approx. 2,500 feet / 760 metres
Leader Anne .07729 903 852

Please bring lots of food, and some spare clothes (warm / waterproof), just in case.

Walk for 10th August - Silloth to Allonby

Costal Walk 10th August 2008 Silloth to Allonby

This is a costal walk following part of the costal way between Silloth and Allonby. It is a shorter and easier walk and would be suitable for people who want to sample the delights of Summitt Good for the first time or if you just want to enjoy an afternoon stroll.

On a good day there are beautiful views across the Solway towards Criffel and the Irish Sea. As the walk is a linear route my intention is to leave a car(s) in Allonby and then drive up the road to Silloth with the other car(s) where the walk will begin.

I may adapt the route a little depending on weather conditions and tides. If you are new to Summitt Good please remember to bring strong footwear, waterproofs and a packed lunch.

Grade 1-2 relatively easy
Distance 6-7 miles
Start time 11.00am at the free car park just north of Allonby grid ref NY 081437
Car share I won't be there, but suggest meeting at Low Wood Hotel at 9.30am

Walk time approx 4-5hours including driving from Allonby to Silloth and collecting cars at the end of the walk.
